cloud9Red Hat, a company known for its open source solutions has announced that Cloud9 IDE has built its online development environment with Red Hat’s OpenShift Online hosted Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) solution. By integrating OpenShift Online into its original online development environment, Cloud9 IDE is able to deliver more flexibility, security and ease of use to developers.

Cloud9 IDE is an online development environment for Javascript and Node.js applications as well as HTML, CSS, PHP, Java, Ruby and 23 other languages. It has enhanced its product last year as reported by ToolsJournal. Using the companies solutions, developers can work efficiently by accessing their code online from anywhere and anytime.

The company also provides editing tools and the runtime environment on a single platform, all within the cloud. Hence development and deploying runtime code from the same online platform on which it has been developed is possible. The solution increases productivity by allowing your team to edit the same code and chat together in realtime online.

Security provided through the PaaS solution’s inclusion of Red Hat Enterprise Linux is one of the many reasons for Cloud9's collaboration with RedHat, states the company. Cost-efficiency can be also seen as OpenShift offers a multi-tenant model where multiple workspaces run on the same virtual machine. Cloud9 IDE workspaces offer users to complete the same functions that can be done on a desktop or laptop machine.

RedHat uses a community-powered approach to reliable and high-performing cloud, Linux, middleware, storage and virtualization technologies. The combination of Cloud9 IDE and OpenShift Online also allows users to run executables, including binary models, Node.js support, Ruby, PHP and C++ applications. This flexibility has allowed many to benefit from using Cloud9 IDE in their infrastructure, including startups, independent software vendors and freelance developers.

Ruben Daniels, CEO and founder, Cloud9 IDE said “Once we really understood what OpenShift was capable of from a technical point of view, we realized we could integrate it to support a better workflow for our users to easily build apps. The combination of Red Hat’s leadership in PaaS and our capabilities at Cloud9 IDE offer developers an easy, flexible and efficient way to build and deploy applications. Our platform wouldn’t be where it is today without OpenShift Online.”
