Why Did Ubuntu Dump CouchDB?

Ubuntu has announced that its dropping CouchDB, its document-oriented data storage system to overcome its limitations to scale across million of users and databases and in process will also lay inroads for an ambitious cloud synchronisation service of its own. Ubuntu One since its early days had a structured data storage sync service based around CouchDB.

PostgreSQL has been embraced by many cloud providers this year like OpenShift, and VMware and others as platform for its database as a service offering. Heroku joins the list and launches PostgreSQL database as a service. Product manager Matt Soldo has said "Until now, the service has only been available to Heroku customers, but today we are pleased to announce the launch of Heroku Postgres as a standalone database service".
