GMBH Froglogic’s two years of dedicated efforts focused on developing a simple but efficient test automation management solution has culminated in form of Squish Central. Squish Central is a web-based, cross-platform, distributed, end-to-end, test automation management solution that includes built-in integration for Squish GUI tests and other types of tests.
Squish Central has two key components: a server that is expected to be running at all times, and one or more clients that execute commands and programs under the direction of the server.
The feature highlights of Squish Central include:-
- Management of Tasks
Using Squish Central users can easily manage application deployment, test deployment and build automation using a single web based interface.
- Management of Tests
Not only Squish GUI tests but also other types of tests from generic batch/shell scripts to tests of the xUnit family such as JUnit and PHPUnit can also be executed using Squish Central. In addition to the types supported by default, a plugin-based extension mechanism allows for addition of new task and test types.
- Automated Deployment of Application Builds and Test Data
With Squish Central it is also possible to specify different sources from which applications, data, and tests should be retrieved and deployed before execution.
- Test Scheduling and Machine Management
Squish Central is cross-platform solution which makes it possible to run distributed tests on many different target machines according to a defined schedule.
- Managing and Processing Test Results and Reports
Squish Central's reporting is optimized to filter the relevant information from the redundant one, collected after test runs on different machine/operating system combinations. The net result is a simplified, crisp and understandable report.
- User and Role Management
Squish Central is pre-installed with three user groups (Admin, User, and Viewer) and one user (admin). Additional users and/or user groups can be created in the administration view.
- Team Collaboration and Communication
Since the solution is web based, everybody in team can have access to information related to the SUT depending upon the privileges they have.
The future road map of Squish central is clearly defined, the future releases will include support for more integration with big tracking tools like JIRA, Mantis, or Bugzilla, integration with Requirements and Specification tools, additional and customizable test types, to list a few.
